Starting and Completing a Roleplay

A typical roleplay round — briefing, call, feedback — takes 5 to 10 minutes. Here is how to run one from start to finish.

Overview

A roleplay is a voice conversation with an AI persona playing a customer, prospect, or team member. You speak; they respond in real time. When you end the call, JAM scores your conversation against the mission's scorecard and shows you where you did well and what to improve.

Prerequisites

  • A computer with a working microphone (a headset gives the best audio)
  • Microphone access granted to your browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox)
  • At least one mission assigned to you, or a published track in the Course Library

Finding a mission

Open My To Dos from the sidebar. Your next assigned mission sits at the top of the page with the track name, due date, and difficulty — click Start on the mission card to open the briefing.
The My To Dos page surfaces your next assigned mission first — one click takes you to the briefing

No assignments? Browse tracks in the Course Library, click Show Missions on any track, then Start on the mission you want.

Preparing: the mission briefing

The briefing gathers everything you need before the call: the scenario, your goal, the tasks you will be scored on, and details about the persona.
The briefing is split in two: your scorecard tasks on the left, persona background on the right

Pay close attention to Your Tasks — click More details on each one to see what a passing answer looks like. These are the exact criteria the scorecard uses.
Note: If you want to practice in another language, change the EN dropdown at the top of the page. The separate Currently shown in selector changes the briefing text only, not the call.
When you are ready, click Start mission (or Restart mission if you have played this one before).

During the call

Speak naturally — the persona replies in real time to whatever you say. The timer at the top tracks the call length. Your task list stays below, and you can click Show hints if you get stuck.
The call runs full-screen with the persona, a timer, and End Conversation in red — speak naturally, as in a real call

Click End Conversation when you finish. The call also ends if you close the tab, but you will lose everything from the current round.
Note: If the call is under about 30 seconds, JAM asks whether to generate feedback anyway or retry. Choose No, thanks! to skip scoring and Restart mission when you are ready.

After the call: your feedback

JAM processes the recording (usually 15 to 30 seconds), then switches to the Feedback tab. You will see your overall score, a Completed or Incomplete label (the threshold is 70 of 100), and a task-by-task breakdown with tips to improve.
See Understanding Your Feedback for a full walkthrough of the feedback page — task statuses, transcript, and conversation stats.

What happens next

  • Score 70 or higher — the mission is Completed. Click Next Mission to move on, or Restart mission to chase a higher score.
  • Score below 70 — the mission is Incomplete. Review the feedback, re-read the briefing, and click Restart mission to try again.
  • Each completed round earns XP, visible as the purple badge in the top bar.
  • Your running progress, streaks, and targets live on the My Progress page.
  • Completing every mission in a track earns you a certificate.

Troubleshooting

The call will not start

Your browser probably does not have microphone access. Click the lock icon in the address bar, open Site settings, find Microphone, and set it to Allow. Reload the page and try again.

The persona stops responding

A slow connection or a brief platform hiccup can freeze the call. If it stays silent for more than about 10 seconds, click End Conversation and restart.

A task shows "Not discussed" in the feedback

The conversation never covered that task's topic — usually because the call was too short or went off on a tangent. Restart the mission and make sure you reach every task from the briefing.

I see "Restart mission" but I have never done this one

The label changes after the first attempt. If a teammate has been testing the account, or if the mission state was seeded elsewhere, Restart mission still does what you expect — starts a fresh round.
